The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility. Pro 15:33

Forgiveness

Do you wish to be like Christ, to be one of God's children?  Then you must be characterized by forgiveness.  Forgiveness is unearned love, no hatred, no vengeance, no retaliation, not holding someone guilty, no blame.  That is what forgiveness is.

Remember what God said:

Isa 43:25  I, even I, am the one who wipes out your transgressions for My own sake, and I will not remember your sins.
Jer 33:8  I will cleanse them from all their iniquity by which they have sinned against Me, and I will pardon all their iniquities by they have sinned against Me, and by which they have transgressed against Me.

Do you not think that when God sees a sinner coming to Him, that God throws His arms around the sinner and lavishes His forgiving love on that sinner?  That's the way God forgives.

Forgiveness is the most God like thing that you can do.

Did not Stephen forgive even as he was being stoned?

Act 7:59  They went on stoning Stephen as he called upon the Lord and said, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.
Act 7:60  Then falling on his knees, he cried with a loud voice, Lord, do hot hold this sin against them. Having said this, he fell asleep.

And again, remember what Paul said to the Colossians:

Col 3:13 bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you.

Forgive others as the Lord has forgiven you.

You are never more like Christ that when you forgive.  Keep remembering that!

Think about this on forgiveness.  Whoever has offended you has offended God more.  So if God can forgive when He has received the greater offense, can't you forgive since you have received the lesser offense.

Are we not to forgive all offenses all the time?  Remember what Christ said. Luk 6:27  But I say unto you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,

Now doesn't that show an attitude of forgiveness?  And forgiveness is not just something that you'll do later.  It needs to be done at the time of the incident.  If you wait till later, there may not be a later.

Is not sin mainly against God?  And if God will forgive us, shouldn't we forgive just as freely as God does?

Look at the following verses.

Matt 6:14  For if you forgive others for their transgressions, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
Matt 6:15  But if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive your transgressions.

God will forgive you if you forgive others.

We are to forgive because the most Holy One forgives.  We are to forgive because we have been forgiven the greater sins against God.  If we don't forgive we are not fit to come to the Lord's table.

NEVER ARE YOU MORE LIKE GOD THAN WHEN YOU FORGIVE.

Everlasting Life

He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
John 3:36.
